Detection of crime: CPLC plays pivotal role: Governor

KARACHI: Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan has said that Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) played a pivotal role in unearthing and detection of crimes by developing better coordination between masses and the Police.

 

This he said while addressing on the occasion of a briefing on the progress and overall achievements of CPLC at Governor House, said a statement Friday.

 

CPLC Chief Zubair Habib and its members were also present on the occasion. The Governor Sindh said that apart from other initiatives of CPLC, its Neighborhood Care Project (NCR), which is operating in 21 areas of City, has been a huge success as it has involved and integrated the local communities very well and due to this project the rate of street crimes has fallen dramatically in these localities.

 

This project is also tackling the issues of cleanliness, improvement of Parks and solution of problems regarding civic amenities and as such there was an urgent need to replicate this project to other parts of Karachi, he added. He observed that Community policing was an essential tool for getting rid of street crimes and solution of civic issues and CPLC should constitute a Quick Response Force (QRF) having jurisdiction over a small area which could respond rapidly in case of any emergency.

 

Dr Ebad lauded the role of CPLC in resolving the cases of kidnapping for ransom and said that it has succeeded in solution of 1329 cases and busting 296 gangs involved in this heinous crime while 1131 accused were also apprehended so far which is a great achievement. In 2015 CPLC managed to solve 22 such cases, arresting 96 criminals, he added. He further said that, CPLC has played a key role in recovery of snatched vehicles and mobile phones, which is very commendable. CPLC has become a beacon of light for the masses and its call centre 1102 receives complaints from every part of the country, which is a great honor for our province, he added.

 

He appreciated registration of 1309 FIRs in various police stations of Karachi on the intervention of CPLC. —APP
